The Ancient Tradition of Chyawanprash
Discover the Story, Ritual and Nourishment Behind BioVeda Yogi Jam
There are certain preparations in Ayurveda that are considered far more than simply “food.” They are revered as Rasayanas ~ deeply nourishing rejuvenative tonics traditionally prepared to support vitality, resilience, longevity and overall wellbeing.
Chyawanprash is perhaps the most famous of them all.
For centuries in India, families have gathered around jars of rich, dark Chyawanprash during the cooler months, taking a spoonful each day as part of their daily ritual. Traditionally enjoyed after meals, it is loved for its warming, grounding and strengthening qualities.
At BioVeda, our Yogi Jam Chyawanprash is crafted according to this ancient tradition using fresh sun-ripened Amla fruit, combined with 34 traditional herbs and spices and prepared in the traditional manner without preservatives or artificial flavours.
The result is a delicious, deeply aromatic herbal jam with a sweet, tangy and gently spiced taste that has been treasured in Ayurvedic households for generations.
The Ancient Legend Behind Chyawanprash
The origins of Chyawanprash are rooted in one of Ayurveda’s most beautiful legends.
According to the traditional texts, there once lived an elderly sage named Chyawan Rishi who had devoted his life to meditation and spiritual practice deep within the forests of India. Over time, his body became weak and depleted from years of austerity.
The twin celestial physicians of Ayurveda, the Ashwini Kumaras, prepared a remarkable herbal tonic to restore his vitality, strength and youthful energy. After taking this preparation regularly, Chyawan Rishi was said to regain his vigour and radiance.
The tonic became known as “Chyawan-prash,” meaning “the jam of Chyawan.”
For thousands of years since, this preparation has remained one of Ayurveda’s most respected rejuvenative formulas.

The Importance of Amla
At the heart of Chyawanprash is Amla, also known as Indian Gooseberry.
In Ayurveda, Amla is considered one of the most revered rejuvenative fruits. Traditionally valued for its cooling, nourishing and restorative qualities, Amla has long been associated with vitality, digestion, strength and longevity.
Modern research has also drawn attention to Amla’s naturally high antioxidant content.
In Yogi Jam, the fresh fruit is slowly combined with herbs, oils, ghee, spices and honey to create a deeply nourishing preparation that is both grounding and invigorating.
